Zhenjiang, a prefecture-level city in Jiangsu Province, is situated at the confluence of the Yangtze River and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, making it a central city in the Yangtze River Delta region. Located in the southern part of Jiangsu, it borders Nanjing to the west, Changzhou to the south, Yangzhou to the north, and Taizhou to the east. Zhenjiang has a varied topography with higher elevations in the west and lower ones in the east, experiencing a subtropical monsoon climate with distinct seasons and abundant rainfall. As of 2022, Zhenjiang is divided into three districts and administers three county-level cities, covering a total area of 3,840 square kilometers and a permanent population of 3.22 million.


Zhenjiang is a city rich in historical and cultural heritage, known as a national historical and cultural city. In ancient times, it was referred to as "Zhufang" during the Spring and Autumn period, "Guyang" during the Warring States period, and "Dantu" in the Qin Dynasty. After the unification of the Sui Dynasty, it was renamed "Runzhou."
